Beginner Zen

Those who are new to Zen practice are encouraged to arrive at least a half hour earlier than the sitting time on Wednesday evening when one of the head monks will be delighted to give simple and basic instructions on meditation.  Please arrive familiarized with the "Beginners" section on this site, particularly regarding procedures and terms.  The best way to learn is to 'do', and as essential as  every part of our practice is, it is not essential to understand everything, in  fact this is a practice of continual unfolding.  All practitioners know this and  are enormously supportive toward new practitioners.  There are no mistakes in  zen, only mirrors and opportunities.  The teachers agree that this work must be  done in a group or Sangha for real movement to occur.  As we do our work we have insights, some of which will be of how enormously lucky we are to be a part of an ancient lineage of Soto zen, with THREE master teachers in one of the most beautiful mansions on Long Island.
